Description:
Computers are increasingly being utilized by terrorists and terror organizations to communicate, spread propaganda, recruit new members, secure financial support, and issue orders. In response, the United States Department of State, Anti Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Program, has developed technical training to assist foreign law enforcement agencies and government institutions so that they can acquire the skills needed to detect, prevent, and investigate incidents related to acts of cyber terrorism.
This five (5) day course, instructed locally by PPSC Antiterrorism Office staff, provides participants an overview of the process of safely securing a terrorism crime scene that may involve the seizure of electronic or digital evidence. Emphasis is placed on proper evidence collection techniques and other basic investigative and documentation activities including photographing the scene, properly shutting down systems, identifying the many types of electronic media that may contain evidence, collection of volatile data and basic suspect interviewing techniques. Additionally, students are instructed on the latest methodologies, hardware, and computer software used to collect electronic data and create forensic disk images.
Learning Activities:
Receive an overview of computer hardware.
Receive an overview of the windows operating system.
Observe and perform cyber crime scene procedures.
Perform hands-on incident response procedures including creating a forensic disk image and collecting volatile data.
Understand steps taken by cyber criminals to attack network infrastructures. Investigate a hands-on scenario utilizing training learned throughout the course.
