FNTI holds Tri-Skills Olympics for FBRC 2006-38
Following its new, enhanced FBRC curriculum, FNTI held the first ever skills Olympics for FBRC 06-38 on May 25, 2006, at the training grounds, capping the 4 month intensive skills of fire recruits.
A brainchild of the FNTI Director- F/SUPT HERBERT B CEZAR, the activity, participated by selected representatives from the six companies of FBRC- Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta,Echo Company, showcased the skills acquired by trainees on the three key areas where they are expected to have the required minimum skills - these are firemanship, rescue and medical first response.
The skills Olympics was the culmination of the skills inventory conducted by the Applied Training Division in coordination with the Fire Education and Protection Unit (FEPU) and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit, to assess the individual tri-skills of trainees. Top picks representing each company, performed different scenarios demonstrating their skills on firefighting, rescue and medical first response, much to the delight and excitement of the spectators.
The activity was facilitated by C/Insp Andrew Mendova and his team from the FEPU for the firefighting test, C/Insp David P Oida and his team mate for the basic rescue skills and SINSP Orlando Antonio together with INSP Felicitas Camilo and the EMS team for the medical first responders skills.
Providing overall leadership and direction was the FNTI Director - F/SUPT Cesar who initiated the actual firefighting and tunnel rescue for class observation, simulating a one fire truck team responding to fire, and requiring a lady recruit to act as nozzleman in the firefighting scenario.
As a whole, the activity, which was a major training innovation anchored on a skills-based and skills-focused training under the headship of the FNTI Director, achieved its purpose to instill in the participants the importance of processing the tri-skills required of a firefighter.
