PNPA HOLDS 28th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY AND INCORPORATION RITES FOR CL 2010

The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) holds today (June 16) its 28th Founding Anniversary and Incorporation Rites of 224 cadets of PNPA “Mabikas” Class 2010 at Camp General Mariano N Casatañeda, Silang, Cavite with Police Director General Arturo C Lomibao, Chief of the Philippine National Police, as Guest of Honor and Speaker. Guests for the twin-event are officials from the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) headed by Atty. Ruben R. Platon, Officer-In-Charge, representing PPSC President Dr. Margarita R. Cojuangco; PNP Officers, parents, relatives and loved ones of cadets.

In the Incorporation Rites, the 224 fourth class cadets of PNPA “Mabikas” Class 2010 from the original 307 admitted cadets, are integrated into the PNPA Corps of Cadets. PNPA “Mabikas” Class 2010 is composed of 176 males and 48 females; licensed teachers-8, criminologists-22, medical technologists-1, registered nurse-1, CSC eligibles-8, college graduates-100 and undergraduates-124. They are represented by region as follows: Region I-9, II-27, III-9, IV-17, V-23, VI-15, VII-7, VIII-3, IX-13, X-3, XI-15, XII-14, NCR-26, CAR-32, CARAGA-7, and ARMM-4.

PNPA was formally established on June 12, 1978 with the promulgation of Presidential Decree No. 1184 on August 26, 1977 then as a police and fire training institution with the view of professionalizing the personnel in every level of command of the Integrated National Police. With the passage of Republic Act 6975 (An Act Establishing the Philippine National Police Under A Reorganized Department of the Interior and Local Government, And for Other Purposes), the Academy became a primary component of PPSC, which was created to be the premiere educational institution for the training, human research development and continuing education of all personnel of the PNP, Fire and Jail Bureaus. Other constitutive institutes under PPSC are the National Police College (NPC), Police National Training Institute (PNTI), Fire National Training Institute (FNTI), and Jail National Training Institute (JNTI).

The Academy conducts the four-year cadetship program and confers to its graduates the degree of Bachelor of Science in Public Safety (BSPS) and who are automatically appointed as police, fire and jail inspectors in the three (3) DILG uniformed bureaus. It opened its admission to female applicants in 1993 in consonance with RA 7192 (The Women in Development and National Building Act) and had its first women graduate in 1995. To date it has 3,624 graduates: 3,339 and 285 men and women, respectively.

After 28 years of existence, the Academy envisions to be the Center for the Professionalization and Character Development of public safety officers endowed with the culture of HONOR, DISCIPLINE and EXCELLENCE. It shall pursue its mandate to provide education and training programs to transform cadets into God-centered, community responsive public safety officers trusted and respected by the people.
